Description
Air brake coils carry compressed air between the towing vehicle and the trailer. The coiled tube stretches as the combination articulates and springs back clear of the chassis, so it is not dragged over the deck or trapped when the vehicle turns. The spring at each end takes the bending load off the fitting, which is where a coil usually fails first.
