The pressure valve, or delivery valve, sits above each plunger element of an in-line injection pump. It opens to let the element deliver fuel to the injector and closes as delivery ends, holding a residual pressure in the line so the next injection starts sharply and the nozzle does not dribble. Valves are ordered by opening pressure and by the Bosch number of the pump element they belong to; steel-ball and seat types are both listed.
