Description

A gearbox lock plug (detent plunger) is screwed into the transmission housing. Its spring-loaded plunger presses into the notches of the shift rail, holding the rail in the selected position so the gear stays engaged and the driver feels it click into place. A worn plunger or a tired spring can let the gear jump out under load.
